Planets of Pain is about transforming mental illness into mental health.
Using abstract paint forms and colour, I create imaginary global landscapes, invoking the natural topography of celestial bodies.
For me these are metaphor for thought, emotion and mental illness. The act of creating these worlds exposes the struggle to transmute unbearable suffering into a pathway towards healing.
I want my work to reach out to those in pain and share that no matter what suffering runs through our veins and arteries our Planets of Pain can be channelled towards healing and even beauty, with the aid of intervention, medication, therapy, support and even the act of creation itself.
